From Allan Branch at Less Accounting:
I emailed ten of these people a link to another Wufoo form with one question: “Tell me how to buy your favorite thing online for you.”
Why did I ask this?
I wanted to learn what their favorite thing online was (insight into their personality).
I like people that come to work and share things about themselves.
More importantly, I needed the person we hired to be able to clearly explain instructions via typed communication. Someone who could give me the exact steps on how to perform a task.
Hiring for customer support can be intimidating. This person’s going to be the face and voice of your company to your customers. That’s why I love reading about other hiring processes. It helps me find great interview questions like this one.
This is brilliant, I love it! Going to use this for sure. 🙂
I’d be totally intimidated by the “favorite thing”. Like, what would it say about me that the next thing that’s on my to buy list is an Epson Labelmaker? But other than that, I love the idea of having to describe what to do to buy a thing for you.
Epson Labelmaker! That’s a great thing to have on your list. I had a labelmaker once but ended up labeling too many things. Way too many things.
Hah, yes, that’s why it’s still on my “to buy list”. Having to design labels in Word and then printing them is too much of a hassle to start doing it for too many things 😉
